I haven't written a journal entry in forever, so I will plug one of my favorite podcast's ever. Dan Carlin's Hardcore History.
www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/hha…It's in-depth, extensive, detailed, yet extremely clear and so well explained. He uses really great analogies to illustrate and help understand history, especially for us modern folks
He always finds interesting parallel's to history and our modern times. He cover's a huge range of topics, usually with a theme in mind for each episode.
He is extremely well read (always quotes some great books), and debunks a lot of history myths, like how the Dark Ages were not really all that dark, and no, most people didn't really believe the world was flat. As an American, our history books, and the history we learn in school, is more often than naught, only seen through this countries eyes. But he really goes into what the other, lesser documented, countries and peoples were up to, while Rome or England, or America thought they were ruling the world. If you have a particular image set in your mind on what, say the Vikings, or the Roman's or the Mongols were like, he will probably give you a whole fresh new perspective.
After each episode, I always find myself googling, tumblring, ahhh what else... binging?... the hell out of the topic he just discussed so I can learn more. (And maybe even be inspired to make some art!) I think that's probably the best compliment a history podcast can get
You can just look him up on iTunes, or go to his site,
